Turn on auto-updates

Always keep your browser, applications and operating system updated. Maintain up-to-date anti-virus, anti-malware and firewall software on your devices.

"Lock down" your devices

  • Password protect your mobile, wearable and computer devices.
  • When not using your devices, use the built-in security functions such as the keypad lock.
  • Wipe your phone of all personal data before discarding or selling it.
  • If you lose your phone or change your number, sign in to your Empower account to remove the old number from your profile.

Do not "remember this device"

It’s best to always use multi-factor authentication (MFA) and to not remember your devices. The additional 10-15 seconds it takes to use MFA makes it much harder for a criminal to log in to your accounts. Choosing to remember a certain device will deactivate multi-factor authentication for future visits, which provides a faster login experience but is more risky.
